Kean is proud to be New Jersey’s urban research university. Founded in 1855, Kean prepares future leaders and innovators in business, the sciences, education and the arts and humanities while also fostering research that addresses issues in our very own communities.

From its roots as a teachers college, Kean has grown into a comprehensive, global institution of higher education serving a diverse enrollment of more than 17,000 undergraduate and graduate students worldwide. Kean is committed to providing an affordable, accessible and world-class education that prepares students to climb higher in their chosen fields.

Kean is a public university governed by a Board of Trustees and managed by a President duly appointed by the Board. The Board currently consists of 15 members appointed by the Governor of New Jersey, as well as a student trustee representative elected annually by the student body. Pursuant to the Higher Education Restructuring Act of 1994, the Board has general supervision and oversight over the University. The President is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the University and the implementation of policies established by the Board.
