Automats were lovingly-designet Art Deco temples to modern efficiency. Sleek steel and glass vending machine grids displayed sandwiches and main dishes as well as desserts and sides, each in their own little boxes, square and even, clean and well-lit. You put a coin in the slot, opened the door and removed your food—which was reportedly quite good, as the founders took terrific pride in their craft.

By the 1940s there were Automat restaurants all over NYC. Children and tourists adored them, office workers depended upon them, and famous artists and politicians were frequent patrons. They were celebrated for their home-style recipes and their coffee was known to be the best in the city.

We may not have the machines (we’re working on that), but like the original Automat owners, we take tremendous pride in serving our community. Our commitment to providing high quality comfort food, served in a pleasant atmosphere hearkens back to a bygone era.
